I absolutely adore banana bread especially with a warm cup of tea. For me, banana bread is the ultimate comfort food, and I love finding new ways to switch up my base banana bread recipe. This time I decided to keep things simple by using honey as the only primary sweeter in this honey whole wheat banana bread. I have grown into the habit of waiting until my bananas are overly ripe before baking with them. My motto is the browner the banana the better because that is when it is at its sweetest. Since I was planning on having this bake for breakfast throughout the week, I went with white whole wheat flour in place of all-purpose flour just for a health-ish twist. I am so happy I went with the white whole wheat flour because its nutty flavor paired so lovely with the natural sweetness of the bananas and honey. How to Make Honey Whole Wheat Banana Bread
Key Ingredients
- White Whole Wheat Flour – I used this brand. If unable to find white whole wheat flour, it maybe substituted with a combination of regular whole wheat flour and all-purpose flour or just use all-purpose flour.
- Ripe Bananas
- Honey
- Eggs
- Plain Yogurt
- Baking Power
- Baking Soda
- Salt
- Vanilla Extract
To Make Honey Whole Wheat Banana Bread
- Preheat – oven to 325F. Lightly grease and line a standard loaf pan with parchment paper.
- Whisk – add the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt into a medium mixing bowl. Whisk to combine.
- Mash – in a separate medium mixing bowl, add ripen bananas and used a fork to mash into a puree. It is ok if small chunks of banana are present.
- Whisk – into bowl with mashed bananas, add the eggs, oil, yogurt, honey and vanilla extract. Whisk to combine.
- Mix – pour liquid mixture into bowl with dry ingredients and mix until banana bread batter comes together without any streaks of flour present. Take care not to overmix batter.
- Pour – batter into prepared baking pan.
- Bake – banana bread for 60 minutes rotating the pan halfway through bake time. Bread is done once a toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.
- Cool – allow banana bread to rest in pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely to room temperature, about 1 hour.
- Serve – slice into equal pieces and serve.
How to Store Honey Whole Wheat Banana Bread
- Refrigerator – banana bread will keep for 1 week in the refrigerator if sliced and placed in an airtight container.
- Freezer – banana bread will keep for 1 mouth in the freezer if sliced, individually wrapped in plastic wrap, and placed into a large Ziplock bag. When ready to eat, allow banana bread thaw to room temperature before eating as is or toasting.

Notes
- In place of honey, may substitute with maple syrup for a maple whole wheat banana bread.
